I love DK weight yarn. It's my favorite weight for garments and accessories, and it also works well in lightweight, drapey blankets too. I use it often, which means I've accrued a lot of scraps and leftover skeins over the past couple years. I wanted to do something fun with it all, so I decided to make a scrappy robe/wearable blanket. I'm looking forward to the kitsch, chaotic final product!

I really need to take more progress pictures of this robe. I've already finished the body and one sleeve! I'm sure once my scrappy tunisian checkerboard throw is done, this will be my main focus. For now though, a bit about its construction...
I knew from the start that I wanted to very minimal sewing for this project. Many robes involve crocheting the front and and back panels separately as well as the two sleeves. Then you sew them all together. This robe is crocheted all in one piece and then sewn on both sides from wrist to armpit to knee to create two side seams.
I'm also working this robe with vertical rows instead of horizontal ones. This means instead of, say, working stitches in rows across the chest, I'm working them in rows from shoulder to knee.
Here's a hastily drawn schematic to show what I'm talking about:

I chose the single crochet mesh stitch for this project because it creates an opaque fabric, but it has a lot of "air" between to stitches to make the final fabric nice and drape-y. Perfect for a cozy house robe!
