project log

Project start! I spent last week making sampler squares of what I'm calling "flow state blanket stitches." I'll elaborate more in a future page, but these are basically simple stitch patterns that are easy and enjoyable to do AND make beautiful, drape-y blankets. I made about 10 different samples and chose my top 3: the Suzette Stitch, the Single Crochet Mesh Stitch, and the Wattle Stitch. I'll be making a baby blanket using each of these stitches!

And any yarn that's left over will be worked up with the Navy yarn to make a fourth blanket with a to-be-determined patterns.

So far, I've started the Mint and Coral blankets. It's been nice to have something easy and mindless to work on.

I've currently worked through at least one skein for for each of the blankets! the Mint blanket has been the most troublesome so far. The Suzette Stitch just didn't have as much drape as SC Mesh and Wattle Stitches. I ended up frogging all my work on it, and starting over with a new stitch. Now, the Mint blanket uses the Lemon Peel Stitch (also known as the Griddle Stitch).

To keep a solid pace and not burnout on a stitch pattern, I'm working two blankets at a time. I keep one project at my computer desk and another in the sitting room. Once I finish a skein, I'll swap out that blanket for the third one on standby. Rinse, repeat!

I'm about 2 skeins in for each blanket. Now that I've got a cat on the way, I've been making plans to minimize cat fur on the final blankets since I plan to donate them. I've set aside some bags to store my WIPs when I'm not working on them, and I've been keeping the unused skeins in the manufacturer's plastic bags until I need them. Hopefully the future cat doesn't have too much of an interest in my yarn...
