I have a LOT of doily patterns saved on Ravelry, but I had a hard time choosing among them for my next study. To be honest, I might be a bit fried on old school doily patterns. What I really want to make right now is a blanket.

I figured: why fight it? So, my next doily study will be... an heirloom blanket pattern made with crochet thread!

While any blanket can be an "heirloom blanket," I prefer this term when referring to very complex blanket patterns. These patterns can take months or even years to complete, which make them valuable works of art worth handing down to future generations. I love these patterns and have many bookmarked for future projects, but I realistically don't need that many blankets nor do I have progeny to hand them down to. They're also very expensive to make since they tend to require more yarn than simpler throw blankets.

But crochet thread? Thinner and cheaper per yard. A blanket pattern worked in thread will, of course, be very small--perfect for mounting on a wall! I've actually done this once before, and it's one of my favorite pieces of decor in my home.

Anyway, the Mythia pattern is a blanket CAL with a detailed central square and additional panels, squares, and a border. However, I plan to only work the central square, which comprises Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the pattern.

Earlier this year, I took advantage of a sale on Crochet.com for their Curio #10 thread. I wasn't a huge fan of the colors, but it's rare to find crochet thread in the sold in the US that's not Aunt Lydia's or a Hobby Lobby brand (ew).

This project uses that thread as well as some leftover Hobbii thread from past project. Starting this project inspired to check Crochet.com again to see if the've got any new types of thread, and I was devastated to see that nothing new was added AND their Curio line is on closeout now. I'm really hoping that this is just to make to room for their winter stock, but I can't help but worry that they'll no longer offer crochet thread.

There are times when I feel like I'm one of only a dozen people in the country that like working with extra-fine yarn. I know that's not truly the case. There are plenty of people who use thread to make doilies, jewelry, lacy accessories, and mini amigurumi. But, man. It's just so disappointing that I MUST look outside the country to find materials for my craft. I makes me feel like my work isn't valued here, you know?
